For those who enjoy my posts, sorry I've been too busy recently to post much, though I've still, somehow, found time to read and write. Poetry will be forthcoming.
Robin: Lady of Legend
R.M Arcejaeger.
This book, only available as an ebook (unfortunately) so far as I can tell, is a charming and interesting retelling of the story of Robin Hood. What if Robin hood were a girl pretending to be a girl? The author takes this concept and makes it work exceptionally well.
The book starts with Robin Locksley, the oldest daughter in a well-off home, discovering that her father plans her to marry the cruel and heartless Sheriff of Nottingham. To escape her fate, she waits for the right moment and then flees, dressed as a man. However, circumstances cause her to not get as far as she had thought, but instead take up residence in Sherwood Forest.
The pleasure of this book, for me at least, was knowing the tale of Robin Hood and seeing how it was worked into the plot. Pretty much every major event that I remember hearing about, whether in Disney's film or in other places, happens in this book, yet it doesn't feel contrived. The characters such as Little John and others in the Merry Men are engaging and enjoyable to get to know.
Perhaps what I liked most about the book was how it left me with a feeling like it could've been the way it happened, even down to us thinking that Robin Hood was a guy and that he loved the Maid Marian.
There's action, adventure, romance, and humor in this book and it is all delivered well.
My only complaint about the book is that it wrapped up a little too fast for me. Some scenes that I wanted to see were skipped over and merely mentioned afterwards. I would've liked to know more about what happens after the point where the book ends.
That being said this book is a recommend to all who enjoy tales of adventure and bravery will a little bit of romance as well. I hope you enjoy it!
